AMIA 2022 is coming soon! Pre-conference workshops<http://www.amiaconference.net/amia-2022-program/> are scheduled for Tuesday, December 6th, including -
* 10:00AM - 5:00PM
AMIA/DLF Hack Day (Separate registration required)
Hack Day is a unique opportunities for practitioners and managers of digital audiovisual collections to join with digital library developers and engineers for an intense day of collaboration to develop solutions for audiovisual preservation and access. Within digital preservation and curation communities, hack days provide an opportunity for archivists, collection managers, technologists, and others to work together develop software solutions, documentation or training materials, and more for collections management needs.
* 10:30AM - 5:00PM
Community Archiving Workshop (Separate registration required)
The Community Archiving Workshop (CAW) is an opportunity for conference attendees to engage with the community of Pittsburgh by working with local volunteers and helping an organization gain intellectual and physical control over an endangered moving image collection. Through the CAW, we partner with local volunteers to inventory and inspect of a collection of film, video, and/or audio. In the process, attendees learn how to identify formats and their risk factors, and what information is needed for priority-setting and preservation planning. We gain experience in working with non-archivists who care about a collection, and who often know its history and can imagine its potential. Most importantly, we build relationships and connections with the Pittsburgh community and learn about local history. This year, a cohort of members and friends of AMIA are learning to become CAW organizers through the CAW Training of Trainers curriculum. Stay tuned for more information about their partner and the location.
* 1:00PM - 5:00PM
Workshop: Linked (Wiki)Data for All: Connect Your Collections to the Web (Separate registration required)
Your collections are not just about unique content, they're also about unique people and organizations. Linked data is a powerful way to use those people and organizations as connective tissue to link your collections to other related collections across the web, and bridge our collective heritage. Services such as Wikidata offer powerful tools to better contextualize your collections. Utilizing open source tools such as OpenRefine (formerly Google Refine) in conjunction with Wikidata also affords you and your institution some more practical benefits, such as saving you many hours of human cataloging labor. This workshop is designed to streamline and make accessible linked data workflows and infrastructures for archivists. It will introduce and demonstrate core principles behind the data structure and framework for Wikidata, and how to use it in conjunction with OpenRefine to connect entities to the semantic web, and bolster descriptive workflows. Please note: The workshop needs to meet a minimum attendance by November 21st. Should the minimum attendance not be met, the workshop will be cancelled and registrants notified.

Call for Roundtable Topics. Roundtables are informal, collaborative discussions that explore specific topics and issues in a smaller group. There is no presenter or speaker, and they are open to anyone with an interest in the topic - discuss and brainstorm approaches to particular challenges; gather feedback about a project idea that will affect the field; brainstorm opportunities for collaboration to solve problems; or just a chance to share experiences and ideas around a particular topic. Recommend a topic for discussion > https://amia.link/roundtables
