EAD Early Implementors,
As Susan Papp from UCSD noted, there was a change made to eadbase.ent on
February 29. We are still in alpha in every sense of the word. I had
expected Randy Barry at LC/NDMSO to announce to the list the change, and I
suspect he expected me to do so. Since I missed three days to jury duty
immediately after making the change, I failed to follow up with Randy. At
any rate, Randy and I will work out a procedure for announcing any future
changes, though both of us hope these are few and far between while in
Here are a summary of the two changes, only one of which has to do with
parsing and the document instances:
====== Leap Year Changes 1996, as result of testing =====
(D. Pitti requested by D. Pitti et al.)
14. CORRECTIONS IN DESCRIPTION OF SUBORDINATE COMPONENTS
"<level>" and "<type>" changed to "level" and "type".
13. PARAMETER ENTITY "level" DECLARED VALUE CHANGE 02/29/96
Declared value for attribute "level" changed from
"bibseries" to "series".
NOTE: You need to ftp from LC a fresh copy of eadbase.ent and reconfigure
your software if you have not already done so. Unless you used the
declared attribute value "bibseries" in any finding aids encoded so far,
this change will have no impact on work completed.
I would recommend to everyone, if you have not already done so, that you
download Near and Far Lite from Microstar:
Near and Far Lite will create very nice hierarchical models of the DTD
that will assist you in understanding the overall structure as well as
the detailed structure.
After you download and install Near and Far Lite, you will need to copy
the EAD DTD files into the appropriate subdirectory and configure the
entity declarations to make it possible for Near and Far Lite to put it
all together. If anyone needs instructions on how to do this, post it to
the list and I will provide them.
