Hi,
Could anyone elaborate on the following please:
The USMARC manual (1988 - we're still waiting for the latest version)
states: " This field contains a title that is a translation of the
title proper. The title is translated by the cataloging agency. This
field is used only when the translated title does not appear on the
piece as a parallel title, which would be recorded in field 245."
As NLW catalogues many Welsh titles, and titles in languages other
than English, I am concerned that this field seems to
imply an obligation on us to translate every title not having a
parallel title. Is this correct?
Thanking you in advance
Alwyn Owen
