Whoever said "you gotta see the movie if you want to comment on
it" was dead-on correct. The xenomorphs in the _Alien_ series are not
evil; they simply prey on humans, to use as hosts for their reproductive
cycle. Ruthless in pursuit of survival, but then so are hornets (and
humans). Say what you will about the quality of these movies--I liked the
first two--they create a plausible alien life form, something that has
generally been missing from SF movies.
In fact, this might serve as a jumping-off point for another
thread. How many SF films have been made with generally plausible
aliens? I am sure it's far fewer than what we'd find in SF literature.
What constitutes a plausible alien? What writers have succeeded in
creating them? What directors?
