OK, add me to the list of those who think this is one of the best SF
novels ever. It evokes stronger emotions, longer after the fact, than
almost anything. It bears re-reading every so often, at least after
major life changes (e.g., parenthood, death of a parent, finding/loss of
faith, serious health challenge). Until I read it as a youth, I had no
idea science-fiction could encompass such a work.
