Hi again,
Another change in the EAD has appeared in the <eadheader> "electronic
title page" section. We had decided to use this element to define
a unique document ID number, which is now nicely accommodated by the
<eadid> element, if I'm interpreting its use correctly. We also
wanted a creation date and encoder name, and maybe some revision info
in the future, and that's all.
Now a problem comes up: I want to put a <name> in <profiledesc><creation>,
which seems perfectly reasonable since the tag library says this element
is for recording that exact information, but no such element is defined
so I have to use a <p> or nothing at all. This seems to be fallout from
the TEI, so be it. But in order to put an <author> in a <filedesc>
<titlestmt> as the TEI suggests I'm also required to have a <titleproper>
which I don't happen to have. Why is that?
And then, if I decide just to put the encoder's name (untagged) in
the <creation> element and leave it at that, I can't: both the <eadid>
and the <filedesc><titlestmt><titleproper> are required! I know the TEI
is very complex in this area, but why can't we just have a <respStmt> or
something simple like that? Must I really define an electronic title
proper just to record the encoder and creation date of the finding aid?
Thanks for any insight,
