I agree with Nicola Gebendinger in that it perhaps is NOT important what the
race of the author, artist or character is. Just like it's not important to
me if my doctor is black or white as long as he does a good job. I am only
interested because of the sometimes deeper meanings behind the lack of
minorities in the genre. The one thing that stuck in my mind was something I
overheard at a convention. It was suggested that the reason so few
African-Americans appeared as characters in sf novels is because they would
all be killed off by the next century. Crude as that statement was, it struck
a chord in me and set me to wondering more about it. Hence my study into the
matter. Mostly I am just curious.
Do you think people of various races would have a different slant on a
particular story? If you asked a Chinese, African, Norweigan and an Apache
Indian to write a story on a futuristic society, would they write their
stories aimed at their own race's view of the future or their own personal
view of the future?
