At his best, Ellison has produced some extraordinarily good fiction.
I won't append a list of my favorites since I'm sure you all have
your own. They will live, as the saying is, if anything does.
However, at times his prose seems determined to raise bathos to an
art form. He can go from hauntingly apt description to deep purple
within the same paragraph! His collection _Angry Candy_ (I think I've
got the title right) contains generous examples of this. But much can
be forgiven a writer of such undoubted talent and passion. Only at
times, the angry young man thing does go on rather.
