I didn't mean to say that Frazetta did any Ballantine ERB books, but I
guess I was a little vague. I just recently got started reading
Burroughs, and I don't have any of the first editions; obviously, you
know more on the subject than I do. Now that you mention Canaveral
Press, I think they're the one who published FIGHTING MAN OF MARS with
the Mahlon Blaine (?) illustrations. So who did the bad illustrations
for Ballantine? I don't know, but since I've never seen a bad
illustration by Frazetta, I don't think it could be him. And the Michael
Whelan covers on the Mars series are great. I forget who did the covers
for the current Ballantine editions of the Venus series, but they're
good, too. Were these interior illustrations in Ballantine hardbacks
that were so bad?
Frazetta and Krenkel started in comics, including sf comics; though
you're obviously not counting those.
