Hi Everyone.
I was given a series of books called something like The Children's Corner (red
bound, 15 or 16 volumes and dearly loved) for Christmas the year I turned 6.
Vol. 15 or 16 was called "Stories of Tomorrow". The one I remember most was
about an inept spaceman named Lancelot Biggs who did things like put rotten
vegetables in barrels out of the hatch to dispose of them. They followed the
ship and Lance was called on the carpet. When the contents were inspected at
his disciplinary hearing, they were found to have changed to gold or
radioactives or whatever it was deemed valuable at the time. I read these
short stories over and over.
Of course, some of you recognized the above to be a Heinlein juvenile, but at
the time, I didn't pay much attention to who the authors were.
I went from this book of shorts to A Wrinkle in Time, the Mushroom planet
books, and the standard kid's fare. I wish I could get my hands on that series
again!
Sue
