Hi. This is my first post. I just turned HAL on and checked out the
posts that have accumulated over the past two days, and I've stopped
here. So if there is a more recent reply to this please excuse me.
I believe the term sci-fi (which many purists look down upon- I don't
consider myself among them though) was coined by none other than Forrest
Ackerman, the person responsible for Famous Monsters of Filmland
magazine (and also responsible for my love of science fiction and
horror). He was also a literary agent.
I havent read this article by Dr.Asimov, but he might have gone on to
say that actually parts of Star Trek could be called sci-fi, depending
on which toupee Mr. Shatner wore. ( I say this in jest,I might add, as I
consider Kirk to be the only Capt. of the many shows) I'm sure this will
create a mighty furor, and I can hear keys pounding now. "DEATH TO THE
NEWBIE !" well thanks for your time .
BTW I'm a real fan of P.K.Dick, Gene Wolff and Brian Aldiss among
others. I don't go around only being a sarcastic wise a**.
