Miami University (Ohio) invites applications for the position of Information
Coordinator - Sponsored Programs, as described below. Established in 1809,
Miami University is a state-assisted university located in Oxford, Ohio, 35
miles north of Cincinnati. The University is characterized as having strong
undergraduate programs in the presence of selected graduate programs and
research. Miami offers doctoral degrees in nine areas of study and masters
degrees in most departments. The University's external grant support for
research is approximately $11 million annually.
Within the context of the University's overall effort to assist faculty to
obtain external grants, this individual's primary responsibility will be
coordinating the collection and dissemination of information on funding
opportunities to University faculty. This is an increasingly electronic
activity, and the individual will have the responsibility to lead and continue
Miami University's movement in this direction. Duties include learning of
federal, state, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities and Miami
faculty interests, distributing targeted information through both paper and
electronic means, developing an electronic database of faculty research
interests, assisting faculty with information searches, and meeting with
faculty to discuss grant opportunities.
Related responsibilities include developing and maintaining information on the
Office's WWW site, assisting faculty in obtaining and completing proposal
forms, and participating in the Office's provision of training and workshops
related to proposal development.
In addition to the above responsibilities, the Information Coordinator will
work with the Associate Provost and two Associate Directors of the Office in a
variety of efforts to encourage, initiate, assist, and celebrate faculty
research and creative activity.
Special assignments as required.
Masters degree; strong writing and interpersonal communication skills;
knowledge of federal, state, corporate, and foundation grant programs and
procedures. This is an increasingly electronic activity nationwide, and the
person selected is also expected to have facility with microcomputers,
including the use of spreadsheet and database applications and the Internet.
In addition to the above, teaching, research, or administrative experience
within a college or university is desirable.
