>Not all Cherryh is to my taste, but I certainly wouldn't call any of her
books `juvenile trash'. *Invader* (the sequel to *Foreigner*) is
an interesting study of a biologically-grounded culture clash. The
telepathic `horses' one (title escapes me) is too long, but deals
with serious emotional problems in an interesting alien environment
(slightly reminiscent of Joanna Russ's *And Chaos Died*). *Tripoint* is
a good addition to the Merchanters' Universe. *Cyteen* almost manages
to be a genuine contribution to human understanding! What else is
she writing `these days' that deserves to be trashed?
Well, it looks like the latest is a Superman and Lois novelization. Everybody's
gotta live, I guess.
>She wrote a samurai-type story (*Cuckoo's Egg*) some time ago, by the way.
Are you sure this is the correct title? CUCKOO'S EGG is about a human clone in
a non-human society. Strong cultural details (as usual), but not expecially
samuraiish, as I recall. There was another novel in which an aspiring
swordswoman sought out a retired master, which is more likely the one you're
remembering. I didn't especially care for it, and just now can't recall the
title. RONIN, maybe? Something like that.
