POSITION: Assistant Librarian, 60% time, possibly increasing to full-time
if funds become available. UC Center for Animal Alternatives, School of
Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis. Salary, $31,032 -
$39,720 (full-time equivalent) depending on qualifications and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for developing and maintaining the resource
library. Creates information guides and other materials concerning animal
welfare and alternatives, manages an electronic mail distribution list,
makes presentations at conferences, organizes workshops, writes grants, and
responds to mail and other requests for information.
QUALIFICATION: Graduate degree in library and information sciences (MLIS)
from an ALA-accredited institution or its equivalent. Requires good
communication and writing skills, experience with word processing programs
and bibliographic reference managers, and demonstrated ability to conceive
and implement innovative programs. Working knowledge of online
bibliographic services highly desirable. Desktop publishing experience
desirable. Previous university-level experience beneficial. Understanding
of current trends and issues in scientific communication and grasp of the
information needs of scientists is preferred.
