Position: Librarian, Brauer Library, UNC-CH
Available: June 1, 1997
Description: Heads Brauer Library, a departmental library serving faculty
and students in Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, Computer
Science, Statistics, and Operations Research. The Brauer
Library includes over 85,000 volumes housed in the library,
over 20,000 volumes in remote storage, 969 current print
periodicals, a small collection of microforms and video-
tapes, and a growing collection of electronic journals and
other electronic resources.
The Librarian is responsible for overall management of the
library, providing reference and research assistance,
collection development and management, bibliographic in-
struction, online and CD-ROM searching, liaison with
departmental faculty and the central library, and for
overseeing the work of two paraprofessional staff members,
a graduate assistant, and several student assistants. The
Librarian serves on library-wide committees and task forces.
The Univer- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the
sity & the country's oldest state university. It has enrollment of
Libraries some 24,000 students, emmploys more than 2,200 faculty, and
offers the Ph.D in 62 fields. The Academic Affairs Library,
which consists of Davis Library, Wilson Library, House
Undergraduate Library, and nine departmental libraries
including Brauer, holds over 4.6 million volumes and 3.2
million microforms. The Library is a member of SOLINET,
the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for
Research Libraries, and the Triangle Research Libraries
Network (TRLN). The TRLN libraries, including the Health
Sciences and Law Libraries at Chapel Hill plus the libra-
ries at Duke University, North Carolina Central University,
and North Carolina State University, have combined collec-
tions of over 10 million volumes.
The Triangle region is rated among the most desirable
places to live and work in North America and offers its
residents a wide array of recreational, cultural, and
intellectual activites. Both the mountains and the sea-
shore are only hours' drive away.
Qualifica- An ALA-accredited MLS; a minimum of three years' relevant

Preferred: An undergraduate degree or extensive coursework in the
mathematical sciences, physics, or applied science; a work-
ing knowledge of PC hardware and software; and working
knowledge of French, German, or Russian.
Salary: This is a 12-month academic appointment with a minimum
salary of $32,000. Standard State benefits of annual
leave, sick leave, and State or TIAA-CREF retirement plan.
