I praise Dr. Who as if it were " some kind of physics text?" Not
hardly. The science in Dr. Who was deplorable. I praise Dr. Who
because it was an entertaining program without any pretension. I
condemn the X-Files because it is so slick and glossy that many of
the unwary are convinced that the conspiracies they see depicted are
in some way connected with reality>>
So what you're basically saying is that the X-Files would be OK if it was
badly produced instead of being slick and glossy? That it would be OK if its
production values were that of 'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' instead of
'Star Trek: The Next Generation'?
How can you condemn a show because it makes the unwary think that the
conspiracies are real? The producers of the X-Files produce a fictional show.
It's not their fault if idiots think that the adventures depicted are real.
Anybody withthe slightest modicum of intelligence treats the X-Files as
exactly what it is: A pretty-good fictional TV show that deals with
conspiracies.
Not to jump on your case, Chas, but you're flat wrong on this one, IMNSHO.
