I don't think the directors I mentioned are obsessed with futility.
Jamie Uys did three hilarious films -- the two Gods Must Be Crazy films
andthe documentary, Animals Are Beautiful People -- which may be
about futility to film critics and academics, but are delightful fables
to most of us; his other film, Dingaka, is, if anything, anti-futility.
I hardly think Eastwood's Man With No Name or Bogart's Sam Spade are
studies in futility either.
Yes, the Kirinyaga stories will appear in book form in about a year or
so. The negotiations are done, but until I sign the contract -- which
shouldbe momentarily -- I don't want to give any more details.
