>Are you a new librarian? Have you been a member of ALA for fewer than 10
>years? Are you looking for guidance on which events and meetings to
>attend at the ALA Midwinter Conference? Would you like to meet other new
>librarians or become more involved in ALA?
>
>If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, please attend the New
>Members Round Table (NMRT) Midwinter Conference Orientation Meeting on
>Saturday, February 15 from 2-4 p.m. in Rooms 20, 21, and 22 of the
>Washington D.C. Convention Center. NMRT offers a wide range of
>opportunities for new librarians or new ALA members, including a mentoring
>program that will pair a new librarian with an experienced one who can
>help guide them, offer advice, or assist them in networking with other
>experienced librarians. If you are interested in becoming more involved
>in ALA, you can fill out a form at the meeting and become part of a
>committee.
>
>This year's orientation program will feature Kathryn Smith, a local
>historian, who will discuss Washington, D.C. in a historical context. ALA
>Executive Director Elizabeth Martinez and NMRT President Laura Sill will
>provide an introduction to the conference and talk about how to get more
>involved in NMRT and ALA. Melissa Sibley, Exhibits Round Table, will
>discuss how to get the most out of visiting the exhibits. Tarshel Beards,
>a reference librarian at American University, will highlight local
>attractions. There will be plenty of time for socializing.
>
>Plan also to attend our dinner/social at the Capitol City Brewing Company,
>near Union Station and the historic post office, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on
>Monday, February 17. Cost (not including beverages) is $20.00.
>
