Position Vacancy
Position Description:
Excellent career opportunity for a forward looking and
electronically proficient science librarian with at least two
years' professional experience in an academic, research, or special
library. Position requires a commitment to providing responsive
services to users and to helping plan a major renovation of the
Science and Technology Library. Reports to the Head, Science and
Technology Libraries.
Responsibilities:
- Provides reference desk assistance and instruction in the use of
electronic, print, and media resources to individuals and classes
- Manages collections and fund expenditures in assigned subject
areas and facilitates electronic access to these resources
- Provides liaison to faculty in assigned subjects in the sciences
- Supervises staff and/or student assistants
- Assists in planning and implementing a major science library
renovation emphasizing services to users, innovative electronic
access, and information delivery
- Trains staff in the use of selected electronic or Internet
applications
- Serves on departmental and library committees and task groups
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited institution
- Two or more years' experience as a librarian in an academic,
research, or special library
- Excellent organizational skills, with demonstrated ability in
planning and goal setting
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability
to work collegially
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronic and print resources in the
sciences, and experience in providing access to them
Preferred Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in physical or natural sciences,
or equivalent experience
- Collection management/faculty liaison experience
- Experience in training library users in the use of Internet
resources, and in their dissemination
- Knowledge of the information needs of scientists, and in
contemporary trends and issues in access to research and publishing
Salary: $30,000-$35,000, commensurate with experience and
qualifications
