SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION LIBRARIES
The Smithsonian Institution Libraries is seeking an experienced Computer
Specialist (Equipment), GS-334-09 at $31,680 per year. DUTIES: The
incumbent is responsible for providing aid in the coordination of
microcomputer technology and equipment throughout the Smithsonian
Institution Libraries (SIL). Maintains an inventory database of all SIL
computer equipment, peripherals and software; orders and sets up personal
computers and installs software for all SIL staff, coordinates solutions
to SIL microcomputer problems; evaluates and/or test microcomputer
equipment; evaluates computer equipment vendors and suppliers, plans and
coordinates all issues concerning placement and moving of computer-related
equipment in the SIL, including data cabling, power wiring and safety
issues; administers the daily operation of the SIL local area network
(LAN); performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Skill in hardware and software installation and trouble
shooting. Skill in using microcomputer hardware. Knowledge of local area
networks (LAN), especially Novell 3.12 and Novell 4.x. Skill in using
