The University of Winnipeg Archives is not using EAD but is using aFR
= archival First Record. This is a flexible hypertext system for the
Web which does not try to mimic USMARC. See
http://www.uwinnipeg.ca/~stevens/index.htm.
Our trial is only partial for a twentieth century small collection,
but you can also see its applications to medieval Latin manuscripts
in Windsheim and in Zurich, under the rubric <manuscript>.
The "Electronic Access to Medieval Manuscripts" project at Hill
Monastic Manuscript Library (Minnesota), funded for three years by
the Andrew Mellon Foundation, is re-creating the same wheel. But
EAMM is also trying to coordinate SGML with MARC protocols and
datafield tags because without them librarians will not recognise the
reality, no matter what archivists think.
