Yes, "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell--which Asimov called possibly
the best SF story of all time--was made into at least two versions of THE
THING The first of dubbed by Asimov as quite possibly the worse SF film
of all time. I think he may be right on both counts. The later version,
from John Carpenter, was better, only because it followed the story more
closely, but was still badly flawed. I don't know why John Carpenter's
characters have to fight so much among themselves. Why can't they just
get along? (:->)
