At the time there was a lot of talk about how the social unrest in the US
was due to "questionable" reading material. An encyclopedia Britanica film
based on the short story "The Lottery" was also removed from the counties
list of acceptable materials. This was a social experiment which was later
abandoned. In the eighth grade my English class was required to read
"Stranger in a Strange Land" and some thought that the students were still
too young to fully understand the novel beyond the "X" rated parts.

"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of
words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people
who must use the words."
