The University Libraries of the Pennsylvania State University invites
applications for the position of Assistant Manager of Audio-Visual
Services, (Job Number 01267).
The Penn State Libraries seeks a dynamic, creative, Assistant Manager to
supervise the mission critical, classroom and technology support unit of
the Audio Visual Services Department. With a full time staff of 19 and a
student workforce of 50 this unit provides classroom instructional support
for both traditional media and computer based multimedia presentation. In
addition the assistant manager provides evaluative and technical support to
the manager in designing, selecting and installing classroom technology
equipment, as well as providing similar consultative services to the other
colleges and campuses of the Penn State System. Maintains a collaborative
working arrangement with other related departments such as Academic
Computing and the Office of Telecommunications. The assistant manager also
serves as a central figure in the department wide management team which, in
addition to the classroom support operation also manages one of the largest
university film and video rental libraries as well as the Pennsylvania
Public Library film/video collection.
The ideal candidate will have a background which includes:
* at least a bachelors degree in a related discipline, (additional related
study is a plus),
* at least 5 years of progressively more responsible supervisory
position(s) in a university audio-visual department or media
center,
* a sincere commitment to customer service,
* the ability to work effectively with a diverse staff, including the
ability to function within a Union Shop environment (tech staff is
unionized),
* a thorough and current knowledge of traditional and computer based
instructional technology equipment,
* a range of computer skills including the ability to work with both PC's
and Macs and use a computer based scheduling system (Medianet experience
a plus), e-mail and web resources effectively,
Position to start on or before July 1, 1997. Grade 22 - Salary range =
minimum: $ 29,808 Mid-Point: $ 37,692 and excellent benefits.
