POSITION: Library Systems Coordinator
AVAILABLE: Summer 1997
ENVIRONMENT: The Center for Library and Information Resources (CLAIR), a
new facility at Emory University soon to be completed, will provide an
environment for innovative approaches to the use of information
technology for the scholarly community. The individual in this position
will be responsible for configuring and maintaining the Information
Commons in the new facility. The Information Commons is the collective
term for the electronic resources (both hardware and software) of the
CLAIR. In addition, the individual will participate in the design and
development of digital archives systems for Special Collections.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities for the new position will include:
systems administration, systems upgrades and development, quality
assurance, special projects, staff training, and internal helpdesk
functions. The position, residing in the Library Systems Office, will
work collegially with library service units and staff in the Universitys
Information Technology Division. Complementing a recently created
Electronic Projects Librarian, this position will assume ongoing system
administration and enhancements responsibilities for newly developed
electronic resources. The individual wil contribute to the systems
design for a digital archives project recently funded by a grant from the
Woodruff Foundation. The position will report to the Director of Library
Systems for the General Libraries.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited MLS (preferred) or masters degree in
computer science or related field; minimum of two years experience in an
academic or research library with experience in implementation of
electronic services required; demonstrated experience in the use of and
knowledge of service implications of the following: DOS, Novell, UNIX,
Windows (3.1, 95, NT), HTML/JAVA, Internet/WWW, integrated library
systems; demonstrated ability to interact successfully and communicate
with all levels of library users and staff in a clear, knowledgeable, and
personable manner in both a team environment and on an individual basis;
experience in planning, organizing, and implementing project activities
desirable.
EMORY LIBRARIES: The libraries of Emory University hold 2.3 million
volumes and employ a total of 263 FTE. In addition to the General
Libraries, there are libraries for health sciences, law, theology, and
Oxford College. The General Libraries, in conjunction with the
Information Technology Division, are currently embarking on a long term
effort to develop a program of services focused on access to networked
information resources. The Emory libraries are members of the
Association of Research Libraries, OCLC, the Research Libraries Group,
the Center for Research Libraries, the Coalition for Networked
Information, the National Digital Library Federation, and the University
Center in Georgia.
BEGINNING SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary and rank dependent upon
qualifications and experience. Rank I: $28,000-$32,000; Rank II:
$32,000-41,000. Comprehensive Benefits Package, including TIAA/CREF.
