Subject: Electronic Services Librarian position
The George T. Potter Library of Ramapo College of New Jersey has the
following position available:
Electronic Services Librarian, Librarian 3, ($34,412-38,799 starting
salary), full time, l2 month, tenure track work schedule. l0-6 with
rotating evening and weekend work. MLS required. Prefer science/
technology background.
The Electronic Services Librarian provides leadership in the use of
electronic resources for librarians, faculty and students. Position
includes primary responsibility for a 25+ station CD-ROM Novell network
and peripherals including training and supervision of student lab
assistants and maintenance and enhancement of the WWW Library Home Page.
Experience with Internet applications to library services and interest in
learning technology techniques, e.g., SGML, Front Page, is essential.
Demonstrated skill in online mediated searching (DIALOG) and OCLC needed.
Ramapo's library has an active information literacy program combining new
technologies with traditional resources. Teaching in this program and
serving at the reference desk are expected.
Superior interpersonal and communication skills and one to three years of
professional library experience is desirable. Persons who are energetic,
flexible and able to prioritize effectively will enjoy working in a
collaborative environment with colleagues who want to develop electronic
reference applications for the library's new client server system,
Endeavor's Voyager. This system offers many opportunities for
implementation of creative electronic reference strategies. A qualified
individual who is optimistic about the role of libraries in the academic
environment and who enthusiastically seeks to integrate new technologies
to enhance the role of electronic access to information is an ideal
candidate for this position. Demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing
electronic environment is required.
The George T. Potter Library has eight librarians and a support staff of
13. The collection includes l30,000 books, l000 periodicals, and l000+
videos. We are a full NJ and partial US government depository. A recent
renovation includes a new electronic learning facility, two multi-media
study rooms, a new reference desk and new office space for all staff.
Ramapo's librarians are members of the local AFT bargaining unit and are
expected to take part in college governance and serve as liaisons with
teaching programs.
