The following Library position is available in the North Carolina Room at
the Headquarters Library:
Position: Librarian, PCN 7731
Position Code: 70
Salary Range: $28,204.80 - $41,995.20
Available: April 19, 1997
Open Until: May 7, 1997
Example of Typical Duties: Provides reference assistance to library patrons in
person, by telephone, by mail, etc.
Locates information using electronic sources such as the DRA automated system,
the Internet, CD-Rom and others.
Processes books and periodicals scheduled for bindery using LAPS Computer
Processes ILL requests for microfilm of N.C. County CORE Collection available
from N.C. State Library.
Processes genealogy microfilm including U.S. Census and other records available
Checks in periodicals; evaluates subscription for retention or deletion
including new titles.
Maintains Vertical File collection; assigns subject headings to newspaper
clippings from local and state newspapers. Maintains genealogy vertical files.
Files supplements for N.C. General Statutes, City and County codes and other
loose leaf services.
Checks in new volumes processed by Technical Services.
Maintains N.C. Notebook including current list of local and state officials and
other local and state info.
Prepares monthly supply list for in-house supplies.
Maintains Special Supply Budget, including toner and paper for microfilm reader
Education & Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university
supplemented by a Master of Library Science Degree from an ALA accredited
school and two years of responsible professional library experience. Must be
able to acquire North Carolina Public Library Certification.
Knowledge & Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices
of modern librarianship; knowledge of reference services; ability to plan and
schedule work for library department; ability to train and supervise others;
ability to analyze problems and recommend practical solutions; ability to use
consistent good judgment in the daily supervision of services; ability to
establish and maintain effective relationships with the community and staff.
