I've read that story probably a dozen times (along with the rest of Past
Through
Tmorrow). I misunderstood the meaning of the story. If they were wearing
spacesuits and used their hands to cover up the hole, it might make sense
(although I still have my doubts). I thought that the people in the story
were holding their hands over the hole in the spaceship while unsuited, which
makes no sense whatsoever.
