<< Why all this fuss about Piers Anthony. I read his books because
they're entertaining. My eight-year-old son likes parts of them too.
If you don't like his books, don't read them. There are authors I
don't like either, like
Stephen King but I don't make a big thing about it. >>
Mostly, the fuss is 'cause some one asked for our opinions on Piers
Anthony (always a mistake) I don't begrudge anyone's enjoyment of Anthony,
or Anthony's enourmous royalty checks. Hell, if I could write schlock as
well as he does, I'd be cranking out volume 2,345 of my never-ending series
of novels set in a half-baked fantasy setting myself. Well, I can always
dream, I guess...
Incidentaly, I don't read authors I don't like, but Anthony was an
exception. My highschool library had the entire Xanth series (up to that
point) and not much else in the sf section. I didn't have the money to buy
many new books at the time, so I burned through Xanth (and Incarnations, and
a good chunk of Phase too.) in one semester. I was pretty desperate. I had
to take a shower after each book, too.
