To add a little more to the Panorama debate....

UNC has decided to go ahead and purchase a site license for Panorama
viewer.  We are moving to a web-based online catalog interface and have a
growing library of SGML-encoded texts that are offered through our
catalog.  Panorame viewer will be on all public and staff work stations
in the UNC libraries.   Once our EAD finding aids are live, it will
support them as well.

I do think it is unfortunate that Softquad is only vendor for SGML
viewers, but on the other hand, I can't fault them for charging for
their product.  We do have to purchase the majority of the
software we use.  Hopefully interest in SGML viewers will rise due to
projects like EAD and more companies will jump in the market.
