REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga seeks an energetic and
creative reference librarian who will be responsible for serving
the information and research needs of the University s students,
faculty, and staff by providing traditional and electronic
reference services, including reference desk service,
bibliographic instruction, electronic database searches, and
collection development. The person in this position reports to
the Head, Reference and Information Services, and performs some
night and weekend work. The reference department consists of 5
librarians and 1 support staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: An MLS from an ALA-accredited program is
required. Also required: demonstrated teaching experience; knowledge
of computers; interest in innovation and implementation of library
technology; and strong communication and interpersonal
skills. Knowledge of and experience in reference service in an
automated, academic library environment; experience with a wide range
of electronic resources; and demonstrated ability to adapt successfully
to a rapidly changing environment are preferred.
APPOINTMENT: This position is a full-time, twelve month,
tenure-track appointment with faculty status and academic rank.
The appointment rank for this position is Assistant Professor.
BENEFITS: Minimum salary $29,000. Library faculty members enjoy
many benefits, including 24 days annual leave, 12 days sick leave
per year, 11 paid holidays, a health/life insurance package with
80% paid by the state, and a choice of two retirement programs
both of which are paid by the state and each equivalent to
approximately 10% of an individual s annual salary.
LIBRARY: The Lupton Library has 12 library faculty members and 16
clerical and support staff members. Its principal automation
vendor is VTLS, Inc. More information about the Library is
