opening for a librarian.  We are an innovative, user-centered, team-based

self-sufficiency.  We seek an individual who is prepared to make

works cooperatively on a team; has initiative and creativity; and
demonstrates the ability to provide a broad range of information services
as well as the willingness to explore services that reach beyond the
boundaries of the traditional library.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is one of the largest biomedical
research centers in the world, with a staff of about 16,400 -- 4,800 of
whom are Ph.D.'s or physicians.  The NIH Library supports the biomedical
and behavioral research needs of the NIH community with a comprehensive
range of scientific, medical, and administrative information and support
services.

Position responsibilities include providing reference and information
services in the biomedical and basic sciences using print, online, network,
and Internet resources; providing end user assistance in the installation
and use of electronic resources; performing collection development with an
emphasis on the selection and implementation of electronic information
resources; providing end-user instruction in the use of Grateful Med,
network information resources, and the Internet; and working in close
collaboration with customers on innovative projects.

Desired qualifications include a knowledge of the biomedical sciences;
technical expertise in using Windows 95 and Mac operating systems and the
Internet; experience searching Medlars and Knight-Ridder databases; a
strong service orientation with an excellent grasp of the application of
information technology in accessing and delivering information; and
excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

This position is for a librarian (GS 1410 series) at the grade 9 or 11
level (salary range $31,680 to $49,831) with promotion potential to the
grade 12 level.  In order to minimally qualify for the GS-9 position,
candidates must have completed all requirements for a master's degree or 2
full academic years of graduate study in library science in an accredited
college or university OR have one year of professional experience in
librarianship equivalent to the GS-7 level.  In order to minimally qualify
for the GS-11 position, candidates must have completed all requirements for
a doctoral degree (or equivalent) or 3 full academic years of graduate
education in library science OR one year of professional experience in
librarianship equivalent to the GS-9 level. You may apply with a resume,
