At the USMARC Advisory Group meeting last week Proposal No. 97-9 was
discussed concerning renaming 856$u to accommodate URNs. The preference
of the group was to use a different subfield for these. It was suggested
that subfield $g (Electronic name--end of range) be redefined for URNs,
since it was a subfield originally defined for a specific situation in
American Memory Project records at LC. However, there was some concern
that the subfield has been used elsewhere. (LC's Geography and Map
Division has used it in a few records, but these could be adjusted if
necessary.) Are there any known uses of this subfield in any records
outside of LC?
