Subject: Re: MIB
I have not seen MIB but have heard its good but am wondering whether we =
should call it or 90% of the movies coming out science fiction? The =
definition of science fiction used to center around whether the movie =
has an scientifically plausable basis and sounds like MIB is more =
fantasy than science fiction. Maybe I have missed the boat and should =
be using the term scifi for all of these movies not science fiction, or =
SF. We need to set up a nomenclature for all of this Science =
Fiction/Speculatve Fiction being the intellectually challenging =
genrem, and SF being the equivalent of the old Classics Illustrated comic =
books which were an attempt to pass on thoughts in the form of brightly =
colored magazines with very small doses of content, and SciFi in which =
sci does not stand for science and almost all content is sacrificed in =
favor of flash and pretty lights...sort of like what is happening to the =
web and internet!
By the way its so great to be involved or at least lurking in a mailing =
list that rises above the "oh yeah....well Silver Surfer can whip =
Supermans butt any time!!" Thank you all for giving me hope!
