The Library of Congress is happy to announce the availability of its new
home page for finding aids using the Encoded Archival Description standard:
This page serves as a central location for the Library of Congress' own
implementation of EAD and provides access to all finding aids at LC which have
been encoded using EAD. Links to reading rooms for the various special
collections lead researchers to other online finding aids (primarily ASCII)
also available at LC. In addition to listing the EAD finding aids and
providing a link to the ftp site for downloading finding aids, stylesheets,
and navigators, the page links to instructions on navigating finding aids
using Panorama. The finding aid home page replaces the page maintained by
American Memory, <http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/ead/eadsamp.html>; please change
your bookmarks and links accordingly.

The new finding aid home page contains ten additional finding aids
encoded by the Manuscript Division as well as a new version of the Shirley
Jackson finding aid; finding aids for the NAACP visual materials and Federal
Theater Project are unchanged at this time. All stylesheets were created
using Panorama 1.5; a few anomalies have already been noted in the display of
Manuscript Division finding aids with the Panorama 2.0 viewer (evaluation
copy). We would appreciate any feedback on the finding aids as well as the
web page.

This new page supplements the EAD DTD page <http://lcweb.loc.gov/ead/>,
which will continue to be the "official" EAD Standards Page at the Library of
Congress (please note the new URL). This page has been updated to link to the
finding aid page, to the application guidelines and tag library drafts, and to
the EAD retrospective guidelines adopted by the American Heritage Virtual
Archive Project and by the University of California EAD project. Another
addition to the EAD DTD site is an annotated list of EAD sites on the Web:
<http://lcweb.loc.gov/ead/eadsites.html>. Please let us know about changes or
additions we should make to this list to get up-to-date information out to the
widest audience.

Please don't hesitate to let us know what you think. Watch this space for
new developments as the EAD project matures.
