A number of Leslie Morris' recent messages have, to my mind, highlighted
the fact that the lively discussion (in February I think) on intellectual
vs physical arrangements and how they were reflected in the EAD DTD was
never resolved. Some of the proposals made by Harvard and others are
suggesting one kind of resolution by allowing tags for one of those
arrangements within those of the other. That may be the answer, or it may
be that no one solution is necessary and each institution could handle the
problem as it saw fit within the bounds of the DTD.
Since I am not now working with finding aids I have no concrete
suggestions to make, but I thought it was worth raising the question of
how EAD users feel about that earlier debate after some months of
application. It has seemed to me that many of the proposed changes to the
DTD arise from the issues that were aired then and that one more look
might be helpful.
