Thus far we have all been concerned with grasping the details of correct markup
of a container list. I would like to go beyond that for a moment and ask about
what can we do to generate additional material from our encoded finding aids.
Specifically, I am thinking about indices -- lists of names and/or subjects, or
perhaps lists of items based on their physical attributes or items in need of
conservation, or other potential lists.
Based on what Michael told us previously, I see that the information that would
be pulled up in an index or "generated list" could be coded in the attributes.
But how can this be actually accomplished so that such lists can either be
generated automatically when one accesses the finding aid, or generated when a
staff member needs the information?
Thanks in advance.
