The University of Hong Kong is the oldest higher education institute in
Hong Kong (est. 1911). There are approximately 12,000 FTE students
registered, and about 1,800 faculty members. The medium of instruction is
English. The University Libaries are highly automated.
The University of Hong Kong Libaries are seeking an Audio-Visual Librarian
(Assistant Libarian I/II) responsible for the management of the AV
department, which includes the Microcomputer Lab. Plans and carries out
new projects for enhancing Library media services, oversees media and
educational software collection development, equipment procurement and
user support services; catalogues AV titles, and serves as a key point
person for innovative use of educational technology.
Applicants must have a good university degree and a recognized
professional qualification in librarianship (MLS or equivalent), plus
at least three years of appropriate post-qualification experience in a
library environment, specifically using computerized technologies for user
services and AV activities. Knowledge in multimedia applications,
computerized systems for providing access to AV resources, and Internet
utilization; familiarity with trends in emerging AV and information tech-
nologies; knowledge of instructional design principles are highly
desirable. Expertise in using computerized software and hardware, such as
distributed video systems, and in supervising and managing a service unit
preferred. Good bilingual (English and Chinese) language skills would be
useful.
Monthly salary (superannuable) is on a 7-point scale, with starting salary
depending on qualifications and experience:
HK$43,565 - 61,135 (Assistant Librarian I)
HK$31,730 - 49,425 (Assistant Librarian II)
