ENTRY LEVEL
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTER
Reference Librarian: An entry-level position is available which will
provide an opportunity to work and learn in a dynamic science and
technology environment. This appointment is for a maximum of three years.
Responsibilities: Provide reference and information services for the
Institute's faculty, students, staff, and the general public. Use and
apply appropriate electronic and published information resources. Other
duties include assisting information specialists in information resources
collection development, preparation of documentation/guides, and
instructional services. Interpret and apply the Library and Information
Center's policies and procedures as appropriate. Participate in other
reference-related activities and projects as needed. Is expected to work
nights and week-ends.
The Environment: The Library and Information Center is central to the
Institute's academic and research programs. Innovation in information
delivery, training, and customer service is central to the Library's
mission. The Georgia Institute of Technology, with nearly 20,000 faculty,
students, and staff, is one of the nation's outstanding universities with
numerous nationally-recognized programs.
Qualifications: Required -- ALA accredited Masters of Library or
Information Science, working knowldedge of current and emerging information
and networked technologies, ability to work effectively with Library
clientele in a rapidly changing and technologically-intensive environment,
basic knowledge of standard reference sources. Effective interpersonal and
communication skills.
Salary and Benefits: Salary is competitive. Librarians are members of the
General Faculty. Standard benefits include: 21 days vacation per year, 12
holidays, state retirement plan or optional plans, health, dental, and life
insurance plans.
