Coordinator of Telecommunications and Networking Technologies
Librarian V
Specific Tasks:
Supervisory level responsibility for the successful operation of a
multi-agency wide area network delivering library services to libraries in
a 5 county area, operated by The Library Network on behalf of its
membership. Supervises networking and telecommunications support staff.
Supervises the day to day management of the wide area network, Internet
connectivity and component local area networks. Monitors and manages all
aspects of the telecommunications network. Develops plans for network
growth and enhancements.
Incumbent and staff will work closely with the Coordinator of Shared
Automation System and staff to troubleshoot problems, manage day to day
operational issues and plan for long term growth.
Works closely with member libraries and advises on networking and
telecommunications impacts of specific library applications.
Plans and tracks consulting projects.
Works with networking and telecommunications vendors.
Liaison to appropriate user groups and committees.
Additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This position requires a Masters in Library Science or equivalent
knowledge and experience as well as an advanced understanding of, and
experience with networking and telecommunications technologies. Specific
knowledge of microcomputers, Windows 3.1, 95 & NT, networking protocols,
UNIX, Internet protocols, frame relay, ISDN and other telecommunications
networks, and VMS are highly desirable. Strong written and oral
communication skills, including an ability to talk about technology in
non-technical human terms. Experience in consensus-building and group
decision-making.
Salary Range:
$49,437 - $55,857 Depending on qualifications and experience,
appointment may be made above the minimum.
