There was an extended version of "Enemy Mine" (not sure if it was
strictly a "Director's Cut"). I haven't seen it, but the little I've
read suggests that the additional scenes were those that explained
more about the Drac culture. Sounds like the film's distributors cut
out precisely the parts you feel were missing from the original
story, in order to make it a more straightforward action movie.
[By "extended version" I mean "longer than the version released in UK
theatres". It could well have been the standard release version in
other countries.]
