Plese post the following posittion available at University Libraries at
Virginia Tech.

Principal Cataloger.  The University Libraries, Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University.  Search Extended.    The Principal Cataloger
fills the role of master cataloger for the University Libraries,
interpreting rules, national standards, and local policies and procedures
for a distributed cataloging staff.  The Principal Cataloger also supervises
the Cataloging Team, establishes goals and priorities, develops policies and
procedures, analyzes workflow, and provides staff training and development.
The successful candidate insures that all cataloging work meets current
national standards of quality and practice, and that records in the local
online catalog conforms to local policies.  The Principal Cataloger
coordinates local contributions to cooperative cataloging and bibliographic
control programs, including NACO, SACO, and OCLC.  Reports to the Head of
Technical Services.
Qualifications:  MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution; a minimum of
three years experience with demonstrated managerial experience in a library;
extensive  knowledge of and experience in cataloging including various
Western European languages, USMARC bibliographic and authority formats, LC
classification, LCSH, AACR2, and authority control in an academic or
research library; extensive experience with a major bibliographic utility
and an online catalog; knowledge of current trends in cataloging,
automation, and technical services; evidence of professional growth, service
activities, and contribution to the library profession to meet library
faculty criteria for promotion and continued appointment.  Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills.  Preferred:  Advanced degree;
research or academic library experience; experience in cataloging electronic
and WWW resources; experience with national cooperative cataloging programs;
experience with electronic spreadsheets and other office software; WWW and
HTML experience.  Salary:  Twelve-month faculty appointment; salary in mid
$30,000; salary/rank commensurate with experience and credentials.
Finalists invited for interview must demonstrate communication skills and
knowledge of technical services through a presentation to library faculty
and staff and other members of the university community.

health insurance through Blue-Cross/Blue Shield, generous sick leave
benefits, 24 days annual leave.
