The University Library System is recruiting for the position of
Chinese Cataloger/Selector of the East Asian Library. The East Asian
Library contains over 211,000 volumes (monographs and periodicals), 1,900
serials titles, over 7,000 reels of microfilm, and 150 newspapers in
Chinese, Japanese, Korean, English and Cambodian. Responsibilities
include original and complex copy cataloging of Chinese language materials
in all formats using AACR2, LC classification, LCSH, LCRI, USMARC, OCLC
CJK PLUS system and other on-line facilities; authority work on Chinese
headings for both local and national databases; assisting the Head of East
Asian Library in the selection and acquisitions of Chinese language books
and serials, and providing reference and bibliographic instruction
Required: ALA-accredited MLS (or recognized equivalent); strong
commitment to service; excellent ability to read, write, and speak
Chinese; knowledge of AACR2, LCRI, LC Classification, LCSH and USMARC
formats; familiarity with OCLC or RLIN CJK system; good oral and written
communications in English; interpersonal skills to work effectively in a
team environment; knowledge of Chinese history, literature, and culture;
knowledge of collection development and management of both print and
electronic resources and networks including Internet. Preferred:
Additional advanced research degree or substantial education in an
appropriate field of Chinese studies; experience in an academic or
research library; experience with CJK bibliographic systems and strong
computer skills.
Salary: $30,000. Comprehensive benefits package including 23 vacation
days/year; BC/BS; TIAA-CREF/Vanguard; and tuition assistance.
