Network Bulletin No. 97-53
Date: October 10, 1997
Subject: Copyright
Index term: Microfiche of NLS copyright records
discontinued
Last month you received a batch of microfiche copies of
recently processed NLS copyright records. Since the Chafee
amendment to the copyright law was passed on September 16,
1996, the number of copyright documents required is small.
Therefore, the microfiche service will be discontinued and
the current shipment of microfiche records is the final
batch you will receive.
As you are aware, if you plan to reproduce in a specialized
format a dramatic literary work (play), a map, music, large-
print material, or a book published outside the United
States, you must first obtain written permission from the
copyright holder(s). The Collection Development Section
maintains or has access to information on publisher's
addresses, mergers, subsidiaries, names of contact persons
in rights and permissions offices, and the Copyright Office
public files. NLS will no longer process copyright
permission requests for you, but we will be pleased to
assist in locating information you may need to acquire
approval.
