Network Bulletin No. 97-61
Date: November 8, 1997
Subject: Magazines
Index term: _Asimov's Science Fiction_ to be
distributed on cassette
Beginning in January, 1998, _Asimov's Science
Fiction_ will be distributed on cassette rather
than flexible disc as previously announced. The
presence of an English-language title for adults
among the first group of magazines converted to
cassette will provide NLS with additional planning
information about subscription growth and cassette
machine usage.
NLS will send a large-print letter to readers who
have subscribed to the disc version, notifying
them of the change in medium. We will also
highlight the change in the next issue of _Talking
Book Topics_. As the number of subscriptions to
the disc version is still very small, the impact
should be limited.
Network bulletins 97-31 and 97-32 included several
attachments listing magazines added, changed, and
discontinued. Those attachments, modified to
reflect the change in medium for _Asimov's Science
Fiction_, are attached, as is an updated version
of reference circular 97-03, _The Magazine Program
of the National Library Service for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped (NLS)_. Please discard the
original versions of these documents. Note that
the CMLS code will be changed to IAM3.
[Attachments: This report contained attachments
that were mailed to the network on November 8,
1997.]
