At MG, and I think even at the larger stores and chains, the real answer to
"What genre is this?" is back in the "What we say it is" category.
Basically, shelving/genre is determined by the person who is there when the
book is entered into the computer. :)
I would say that you shouldn't limit yourself by avoiding cross-genre stuff, but
there is SO MUCH out there to be read, I think we all have to impose
limitations of some kind.

I think, at least at a book store level, the answer is to have a
knowledgable staff which can steer a customer in the direction of books
s/he will like, regardless of the section the books are in, or what it may
say on the spine.
