I once heard a program that Edison worked on all the "earthshaking"
inventions because he did the basics; motion pictures, light, sound. The
refinements of these systems was what took the real work. It maybe be
said the same of many modern inventions. The computer may have been
invented in the 1940's, but thank god it was improved and basically
re-invented since then. Also, you could say there is nothing new under
the sun.
The Time magazine listing is somewhat oversimplied and only looking at the
broad picture. How we use technology changes and is new very day.
