Holger> Yeah, I'm sure I wrote SANTIAGO. After we'd written (and been
paid for) three drafts, they farmed it out to David and Dorothy for
a rewrite/polish. The rewrite/polish was rejected by everyone involved
in the project and they're back to using our script.
We don't tend to discuss this much, because, this being Hollywood,
you will never know if a) our script -needed- a rewrite, and b) the
rewrite was as bad as the producers thought. Writers are always being
replaced on Hollywood projects, and no inference about their skills
should be drawn from this.
But yes, the Gerrold/Fontana draft is in history's dustbin, and they're
using the Resnick/Resnick draft. It was also our SANTIAGO script that
brought us to Miramax's attention and eventually got us the WIDOWMAKER
contract.
