POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
COORDINATOR OF MUSIC LIBRARY
UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LIBRARIES
Responsibilities: Administer and plan the programs and daily operations of
the Music Library and serve as reference librarian in the branch.
Supervise, train, and evaluate the employees of the Music Library,
including 1 librarian, 1.5 FTE staff, and 5 part-time student employees.
Maintain a close relationship with branch library administrators and the
Moores' School of Music faculty. Provide service at the
Reference/Electronic Publications Center desk (in the main library),
including some weekend and evening hours. Duties include collection
development (print and electronic), library instruction, and faculty
liaison in humanities. Participate in various library and university
activities, including involvement with committees and task forces.
Requirements: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school
required. Background in Musicology required, and some supervisory
experience strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills and strong
service orientation essential. Desire to work in an environment where
services are expanding and where there is considerable scope for planning
and implementing new program initiatives, including the application of new
technologies to the delivery of services.
Salary: $31,000. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement
programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available;
released time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income
tax.
Library Information: The Libraries are a member of the Association of
Research Libraries, hold over 1.8 million volumes, with a current materials
budget of $4.2 million. Total staff includes 46 professionals and 170
