ARCHIVIST II / ELECTRONIC RECORDS ARCHIVIST
Archives/Library Division
Pay Range 29 (24,895-30,430 annual wage -- excellent benefits)
NATURE OF WORK IN THIS CLASS:
This is a permanent, professional position within the Archives/Library
Division. Provides technical advice and assistance to state personnel on
issues relating to access and preservation of electronic records of
enduring historical value. Assists the Assistant State Archivist with
the appraisal of electronic records and electronic records policy.
Assists with digitization projects as necessary.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Provides technical assistance to state personnel on access and
preservation of electronic records. Appraises electronic records.
Drafts electronic records policy. Assists with digitization projects.
Contributes to professional development activities including
publications, seminars or conferences. Performs other duties as may be
assigned for the efficient operation of the Archives Library.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Follow instructions of supervisor; provide intelligent input for
collaborative decision making; supervise and/or work with other staff
members in a congenial manner. Interact with state agency personnel and
others in a congenial professional manner. Comply with directions within
reasonable time frames; assume responsibility and authority when
necessary; display initiative and flexibility. Ability to lift, carry,
reach and retrieve items weighing up to forty pounds from a height of six
feet. Ability to operate library carts. Knowledge of American and Ohio
history, records management procedures and GILS. Ability to carry out
complex written and oral instructions. Ability to pay attention to
detail while completing repetitive tasks. Ability to manage time
effectively, work well with minimum supervision and to promptly report
problems to supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in history, library science, computer science or related
field. Extensive experience and working knowledge of Windows 95/NT, CGI
scripts and/or JAVA programming, SQL programming, database management,
scanning, digital conversion technology, HTML and SGML. Two years in an
archival or manuscript repository at a professional level; graduate
intern experience may substitute for one year experience.
